Rebekah Turnmire

Rebekah Turnmire is a M.A. student in the American Studies Department. She completed her B.A. in History at the College of William & Mary, earning honors for her thesis on regional race relations in the Appalachian Mountains through material culture and oral history. Having recently completed a two-year teaching position with the Peace Corps in the Kyrgyz Republic, she is excited to dive back into academics at GW. Rebekah’s research interests include the nuances of racial, regional and cultural identity as evidenced in national popular culture and memory.
