The Department of American Studies would like to thank Dave Zirin--political sportswriter, sports editor for The Nation, and host of the Edge of Sports podcast--who discussed the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games, drawing on his 2011 book, The John Carlos Story: The Sports Movement That Changed the World.  Zirin spoke candidly to a standing-room-only crowd crowd at the Gelman Library about the significance of John Carlos, Tommie Smith, and their protest at these Olympics.

The 1968 Initiative explores the history and legacy of 1968 as a year of enormous impact.  This is the second meeting of the Initiative.  It will meet next on Friday, October 26--details pending.
