Where did you go for undergrad and what did you study?
I attended Belmont University, where I studied History and English.
Is there one book/piece of media that inspired you to pursue the field of American Studies? If so, which one and why?
Hannah Arendt’s On Revolution definitely inspired me. Although Arendt’s democratic fervor is quite moving in her other works too, it’s her appreciation for the American Revolution specifically that helped direct my attention to the study of America. Arendt is an absolutely dazzling writer and when I read her for the first time, I saw the potential for how to communicate my own ideas within the field of American Studies.
If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life what would it be and why?
White Light/White Heat by The Velvet Underground because the second side of that record alone could get me through a lifetime.
What are you currently reading?
I am currently reading Historical Thinking and Other Unnatural Acts by Sam Wineburg – a revelatory read about how we should actually be teaching History.
