We would like to congratulate PhD candidate Michael Horka on being awarded the Philip J. Amsterdam Graduate Teaching Award! Michael joins three other American Studies students, Craig Lanier Allen, Shannon Mancus, and Scott Larson, in winning this award. We are so proud of the way our graduate students continue to excel! The Philip J. Amsterdam Graduate Teaching Award was created to honor the individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to GW teaching and to recognize the important contribution our graduate students make to the educational process. President Stephen J. Trachtenberg and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Donald R. Lehman established the Philip J. Amsterdam Graduate Teaching Award in 2003.

In recognition of Michael's contributions to American Studies and to learn more about him and the award, we sat down with Michael for an interview, which you can read here
