PhD Student
Vit Bitencourt is a PhD student in the American Studies department. She holds a BA in Human Ecology from the College of the Atlantic and a MFA in Experimental and Documentary Arts from Duke University. Her primary fields of interest are history of photography, documentary expression and museum studies.
Prior to joining the Ph.D. program, Vit worked as a curatorial assistant for photography at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC, manager of the Power Plant Gallery in Durham, NC and taught photography at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. She is originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Where did you go for undergrad and what did you study? What are you studying now?
I went to the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor where I got a BA in Human Ecology, and I also have a Master of Fine Arts in Experimental and Documentary Arts from Duke University.
If you were an animal, what animal would you be and why?
I’d love to be a river otter so I could just eat fish, lay around and swim with a buddy all day.
